Ms. Sara Shaffer is one of our newest editions to the Dobyns-Bennett EXCEL faculty. Sara comes to us with a Bachelor of Arts with a emphasis in Art and minor in Education from East Tennessee State University. Sara has an immense variety of educational experience including teaching art at both Kingsley Elementary and Miller Perry Elementary before joining Kingsport City Schools to teach at Innovation Academy. At Innovation Academy, Ms. Shaffer was the Multi-Media instructor but also worked collaboratively with other teachers to create cross curricular, project based learning units. After leaving Innovation Academy, Ms. Shaffer taught Art at Kennedy Elementary whiling hosting STEM club for two years. This variety of art, technology, and innovation makes her a perfect fit for DBE's Digital Arts teacher!
When Sara is not working with her students, you can find her working at Aperture Studios, where she explores her passion for photography. However, during the fall, you will find her in Blacksburg, Virginia cheering on the Hokies or just spending down time with her friends and family. Ms. Shaffer has a very large family with five older brothers, three nieces, two nephews, and two fur babies of her own named Dixie and Phoebe.
She loves DBE for her ability to build relationships with her co-workers and students. She loves that we are a 21st Century School that focuses on individual student's needs while embedding technology and blended learning. Sara loves that students are excited to take ownership of their learning here, which makes any teacher happy.
