Dobyns-Bennett High School Graduation

grad

  • All graduating seniors will be required to attend a graduation practice on Friday, 7/17, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.  Students are to report to the Buck Van Huss Dome and be seated in chairs that will be labeled with individual name cards.  Students should dress for July weather and wear sunscreen.  Sunglasses and hats are recommended as well.  The second half of our practice will be in the football stadium.
  • The graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, 7/17, at 8:45 p.m. in J. Fred Johnson Stadium. Students are required to report to the Buck Van Huss Dome at 7:45 p.m.  Please carry your cap and gown into the Buck Van Huss Dome. The stadium will open for guest seating at 7:45 p.m.
  • The late start time is to best accommodate the hot July weather. Moving inside would require two or three ceremonies due to social distancing guidelines.
  • As you know, summer evenings are also notorious for rain showers.  This requires us to have contingency plans in the event we have to make a change due to weather.  The first contingency plan in the event of inclement weather will be to move the graduation ceremony to Saturday, 7/18, at 8:45 p.m. in J. Fred Johnson Stadium. We would still have practice Friday morning at 9:00 a.m.
  • If the weather forecast looks like rain for both Friday and Saturday, we may be forced to schedule multiple ceremonies in the Buck Van Huss Dome on Saturday.  This would be a last resort.   We will share more information about the plan for the inside ceremonies as those plans are worked out in early July and in accordance with the current guidance from the CDC and the governor's office at that time.

Social distancing practices will be in effect for graduates and guests.  We encourage our guests to wear face masks and those who are ill or who have a fever above 100 to stay home.  To accommodate those that cannot or chose not to attend, we will live stream the ceremony through a link that will be posted on dbhs.k12k.com.  We will not be distributing tickets for the graduation ceremony, but to allow for appropriate social distancing to occur within the capacity of the stadium, we respectfully ask that each graduate limit his/her number of guests to eight.

Thank you for your patience as we try to work through very unique circumstances.  We are committed to providing a memorable and respectable graduation ceremony for our graduates and their guests.

We look forward to seeing you all in a few short weeks at J. Fred Johnson Stadium and as always....ROLL TRIBE!!
