The graphic represents the work currently ongoing at D-B EXCEL. The school has worked within the community to both develop an internal curriculum supportive of these goals, and also fosters external resources within the community to bolster the student experiences within these pathways. At the end of their tenure at DBE, students will have worked within courses specifically designed by instructors related to standards researched to fit the industry needs and support student success in their post-secondary endeavors.

STEM education provides a foundation for students with the skills necessary to succeed in traditional competencies of Math and Science. Locally, these jobs, especially in the subset of computer applications, engineering, and technical training are readily available and experiencing a season of rapid growth. With these trends in mind, the curriculum pathways at D-B EXCEL are justified. The STEM pathway offers a curriculum rich in the skill-set required for these types of jobs. Through the development of mastery in STEM competencies, students will develop a critical-awareness and inquiry-minded education that fosters success in an open job market, as shown through the growth and availability of technical and engineering jobs. The formation of this competency is further supported by a report published by the TN state department of workforce and development. The report states the current job analysis conducted statewide suggests that most open job market in the upcoming year is within the domain of manufacturing, a career heavily reliant on today’s STEM education (https://www.tn.gov/workforce/general-resources)

An education surrounding the competency of communication education provides a foundation for students with the skills necessary to succeed in flexible domain of jobs related to communication and the organizational management. The regional availability of these jobs is supported by the measures of growth in the career fields of technological communications throughout the entire local area. With these trends in mind, the curriculum pathways at D-B EXCEL are justified. The communication pathway offers a curriculum rich in the skill-set required for these types of jobs. Through the development of mastery in the competencies of  communication, students will develop mastery in disciplines, such as marketing, digital design, business management, and technical/process writing. These core areas embedded within the secondary curriculum will form a student ready to enter a growing job market within the diverse field of communication. The formation of this competency is further supported by a report published by the TN state department of workforce and development. The report states the current job analysis conducted statewide suggests that third most open job market in the upcoming year is within business supervisory positions, a career heavily reliant on today’s on the adaptability of students with an understanding of business communication, and the marketability that this skill-set affords.
