Kingsport City Schools to Offer Bulk Summer Meals for Children

KINGSPORT, Tenn. –  For the first time, Kingsport City Schools School Nutrition Services department, will provide no-cost bulk summer meals for children aged 18 and under through the Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids, also known as SUN Meals. The program is designed to help ensure students in rural areas have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months.

Under an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), there are no income requirements to participate in SUN Meals. Parents or guardians of children 18 years and younger can pick up a food bag or box, including seven (7) days of food to cover a week of breakfast and lunch meals for each child in their home that is not receiving meals in a summer learning program.

"We know that many families in our community are feeling the squeeze of today’s economy, and summertime shouldn't add to that stress," said Jennifer Walker, Kingsport City Schools Supervisor of School Nutrition Services. "We are incredibly excited to launch the SUN Meals bulk program for the first time. By providing a full week of nutritious breakfasts and lunches at no cost, we can ease the burden on parents and ensure our children stay healthy, happy, and well-fed all summer long."

Families may pick up a seven (7) day food bag or box each Thursday from May 28-July 9, 2026 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at John Adams Elementary School (2727 Edinburgh Channel Road, Kingsport, TN 37664). Pick-up dates are the following Thursdays:
  • May 28
  • June 4
  • June 11
  • June 18
