Community Engagement

DBE works with community partners (businesses/individuals/civic organizations) to assist in securing jobs for our students. All students are eligible to sign up for Earn & Learn and the jobs will be dependent upon what jobs are available at the time of the students looking for work. We strongly encourage each of these students to faithfully attend school and work, arriving on time, passing each school course according to the requirements, and performing his/her work assignments in a satisfactory manner. Our goal is to consistently remain focused on the purpose of Earn & Learn and in doing so our students/community will benefit greatly from these endeavors.

Personalized learning plans

Personal Learning Plans are created to improve learning and achievement by having the student, become an active participant in the learning process and creating a plan to set academic, career and personal goals to achieve success in your learning and future.

There are three components to this plan:
  1. Learn to Be (Personal Goals)
  2. Learn to Do (Career Goals)
  3. Learn to Learn (Academic Goals)
The process for the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) will include a cycle of actions to ensure success and will include individual sessions with you and your mentor. The process is Plan, Do, Check, Act.
  1. PLAN - Identify and develop goals
  2. DO - Create strategies to achieve those goals
  3. CHECK - Check grades, test scores, report data
  4. ACT - Evaluate and plan next steps …and return to PLAN
SMART Strategies to achieve my goals
  • S - Specific. Be specific with your goals and make them well-defined.
  • M - Meaningful. Be sure the goals are meaningful to you and your life.
  • A - Action-based. Be sure that you can achieve these goals through your actions.
  • R - Realistic. Make sure your goals are realistic and achievable.
  • T - Time-based. Keep in mind the timeline when you set your goals.
